Today is the day the electors will decide if Donald J. Trump (Street Corner Donald, The Donald) will become our nation’s 45th president.
There are 538 electors who will be deciding whether Street Corner Donald should stay on the corner of Fifth Avenue or be allowed into the House at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
The way things are looking right now suggest Street Corner Donald will more than likely make it into the White House.
He has 306 electoral votes to Hillary Clinton’s (The Hills) 232 electoral votes.
The fact that Street Corner Donald has managed to do the impossible by becoming the second person, after then Senator Obama, to beat the Clinton machine has the Clintons boiling over.
It’s one thing for the Clintons to have a first term U.S. senator beat them, but it’s another to have a street corner hustler to out con them.
As far as Team Clinton is concern, this is evidence enough for the 538 electors to not certify Street Corner Donald as our nation’s next president.
For their part, many of the electors say that they are voting the way the law tells them.
And they are voting the way the law tells them because the one thing not any of the electors can afford is a fine and jail time for voting the Clintons’ conscience.
Plus, the little bit about the Russians hacking into the election isn’t mounting to a hill of beans for the electors.
Charlie Buckels, a Republican from Louisiana, told the Associated Press that the large document he received from an individual who wrote that he “had absolute proof that the Russians hacked the elections” has not persuaded him [Charlie Buckels] to vote for someone other than Street Corner Donald.
The Bernie supporters are another hurdle Team Clinton faces. John Minton from Chesapeake, Virginia started a petition on Change.org, urging electors to vote against Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump and to instead vote for Bernie Sanders (Ol’ Uncle Bernie There).
The petition has received 32, 260 signatures. Minton argued that The Hills stole the election from Ol’ Uncle Bernie There: “-despite Bernie Sanders winning the popular vote, the DNC and Hillary colluded to suppress the vote, block voters, and rig the election system to ensure Bernie failed so they could insert Hillary as the Democratic nominee illegitimately. If this election fraud had not taken place, Bernie would have won the Democratic nomination, he would have faced off with Trump during the General Election, and Bernie would have won the Presidency.”
Minton's comments are in line with what many of Ol’ Uncle Bernie There supporters believe.
For many of Ol’ Uncle Bernie There supporters, The Hills did to Ol’ Uncle Bernie There what she said the Russian’s helped Streeter Corner Donald do to her, which is to steal the election.
This has led to some of Ol’ Uncle Bernie There supporters saying they are going to vote their conscience and vote against The Hills and Street Corner Donald.
However, there are 27 states that do not allow the electors to vote their conscience. In Colorado, a judge had to remind two of Ol’ Uncle Bernie There supporters that voting their conscience could result in fines and jail time.
However, the chances of any judge fining and or jailing an elector for voting his/her conscience is slim to none.
The one thing no judge wants to be perceived as doing is using the power of the bench in order to force the electors to vote the way the law tells them to.
Because although 27 states have laws requiring electors to vote for the winner of the state, the idea that someone could be fined and/or placed in jail for changing his/her mind is unconscionable to the general public.
Folks can wrap their minds around why a person should be fined and or jailed for stealing and or killing, but folks will not attempt to understand why a person should be fined and or jailed for changing their minds about who they want to vote for.
If a judge decided to make such a grave error, he would be perceived as a ruling tyrant the founders were protecting the people against.
Alexander Hamilton wrote in the Federalist No. 68, “The process of election affords a moral certainty, that the office of President will never fall to the lot of any man who is not in an eminent degree endowed with the requisite qualifications. Talents for low intrigue, and the little arts of popularity, may alone suffice to elevate a man to the first honors in a single state; but it will require other talents, and a different kind of merit, to establish him in the esteem and confidence of the whole union, or of so considerable a portion of it as would be necessary to make him a successful candidate for the distinguished office of President of the United States. ”
Hamilton is saying here that people who are morally and intellectually inferior can serve in local and state government, but they need not apply to become the president of the United States.
The Electoral College is the country’s safety measure that ensures the people will not select an uncouth fool as the president of the United States.
And Street Corner Donald’s shady business practices and his uncouth behavior during the campaign and his bating China, a superpower, with tweets is enough of a reason for the electors to vote another way.
Now, this doesn’t mean The Hills will become the first Madam President. After all, she has her own problems like her poor judgement on Benghazi and her decision to store classified material on a private email server.
It does, however, mean that if enough electors decide to abort ship and not support Street Corner Donald or The Hills then they would have done what Hamilton intended them to do, which is to not certify an uncouth fool as the next commander-in-chief.
